it’ll be some of the Boston area’s best people watching, and besides our always entertaining vinyl only DJ Patrick Bryant of WMBR’s ‘Subject To Change’ radio program, there’ll be free entertainment by:
Cotton Candy is Mark Robinson (from the bands UNREST, AIR MIAMI, FLIN FLON) and Evelyn Hurley (BLAST OFF COUNTRY STYLE, HOT PURSUIT). They perform a potpourri of genrés – from indie-pop to electronic-pop to hard rock. They also show off their advertising jingle chops with covers of rare radio and TV commercials. Mark and Evelyn also run the Teen-Beat record label. Brightest Young Things once famously said “Cotton Candy was absolutely the highlight of the night for me.”
The Marshalls are an enduring power-pop quartet that have been a fixture in the New England music scene for many years. The are three brothers and a sister – Kevin, Kenny, Barry and Ellie. A Collection of their original songs from over the years called Wicked Good Music‘ is available on CD, and they perform songs in many different genres.
Ellie Marshall was a member of the pop-soul revue Barry Marshall and the Rockin’ Robins, but she is best known for being a featured vocalist and guitarist with Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers, recording on various albums and touring internationally. She also sang lead vocals on a record with the legendary Boston band Big Dipper.
Barry Marshall was musical director and guitarist for Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee Lavern Baker, Atlantic Record’s top selling female recording artist in the late 1950s through the early ’60s. Barry orchestrated her comeback in the 1990s and along with brother, Kevin, toured internationally. Barry and Kevin have also worked with Linda Hopkins, the Supremes’ Mary Wilson, and Ben E. King.
Kevin and Kenny Marshall recorded an album of original music in London with Peter Gunn of the Inmates, which was well received in Europe. They were mainstays of the legendary Rat in Kenmore Square and have performed with artists like the Cars and Rick Danko of The Band.
